Kyphosis

  • An exaggeration of the posterior convexity of the thoracic vertebral column
  • Also called “humpback” or “hunchback”
  • It may be due to absence of a vertebral body; malformation by incomplete segmentation of vertebral bodies; absence of a corner or flattening by compression

 Lordosis

  • An exaggeration of the posterior concavity of the spine characteristic of the lumbar region.
  • Also called “swayback”, indicating extreme anterior curvature of the lumbar spine

 Posterior Pelvic Tilt

  • Reduction of the natural lumbar curvature
  • Also called “flat back”

 Forward Head Posture

  • An anterior positioning of the cervical spine is characteristic of forward head posture

 Scoliosis

  • A condition involving lateral curve or angular deviation of one or more vertebral segments, often with twisting of the spinal column

 Winged Scapula

  • Inferior angle of scapula protrude slightly from body.
  • May also be accompanied by a protracted shoulder girdle.

 Protracted Shoulder Girdle

  • The shoulders are pulled forward. Medial border of the scapula may also protrude slightly from body.

Changing your posture or alignment after years of programming requires diligence and patience.  Supplementing this conscious re-alignment with specific strengthening exercises can ensure you achieve that ideal neutral spine.
